Cicero Center for International Climate Research

CICERO is a leading inter-disciplinary climate research institute, with departments on the climate sciences, climate economics, climate policy, and climate communication. CICERO undertakes projects funded primarily by the EU Framework Programs and the Research Council of Norway, with smaller funding from Government ministries and other national and international funding programs or organizations. CICERO participates in a broad network of national and international research communities; for example, IPCC assessment reports (in AR5 one coordinating lead author, four lead authors, and six contributing authors), global change programs (e.g., Future Earth, Global Carbon Project), and EU research (e.g., Joint Programming Initiatives). With expertise in both the natural and the social sciences, CICERO conducts interdisciplinary research on a wide range of climate issues. CICERO has around 65 staff, 50 of which are research staff, 10 in administration, and 5 dedicated to communication. Communication, stakeholder management and process facilitation is of core importance to CICERO, with most projects involving communication activities in the media, with stakeholders, and with the general public.

In the SMART project, CICERO will contribute to the 'hot-spot' analysis to the Research Guide and case-studies. The 'hot-spot' analysis in its general form will cover 140 countries, 57 sectors, key environmental indicators (e.g., carbon dioxide emissions), and value added (e.g., employment). In the case-studies, the 'hot-spot' analysis will be applied directly to the wearing apparel and Electronic sectors. Also, CICERO will contribute to the methodology and engagement of stakeholder and the general public. This work also includes media work. In the case of stakeholder and public engagement CICERO will contribute with its expertise by facilitating and enabling effective engagement strategies, and seek to maximize the impact of the project through this work.
