City University of Hong Kong

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a government-funded university established in 1984. CityU, which “aspires to become a leading global university, excelling in research and professional education”, offers a number of undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes, including in the area of energy and environment. CityU was ranked 108th in the QS World University Rankings 2014 and 5th in the 2014 QS Top 50 Universities under 50 Years.

CityU “provides quality professional education and pursues applicable research in a manner that balances growth with social responsibility and sustainability.” In 2011, the University adopted a Charter of Social Responsibility so that “University’s operation can be managed sensitively and responsibly, whilst giving due consideration to its impact on the environment and society; balancing growth with sustainability.” CityU’s focus on integrating sustainability in teaching as well as promoting discovery and innovation in research makes it a natural partner to the SMART project.
